How To Knit A Lateral Braid: new tutorial
A lateral braid, aka an Estonian braid or Vikkel braid looks like a horizontal braid and adds a lovely detail. Because it's as stretchy as the stockinette stitch, you can add the detail wherever you want without constricting your work.
It doesn't require a set amount of stitches (even or uneven), and is done by adding a stitch at the beginning of your row, working the braid from right to left as you knit your row, and decreasing a stitch at the very end.
